ABSTRACT

This document contains the proceedings of a Workshop on fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance held at Muscat, Oman from 24 to 28 October 1999. The proceedings include reports on the discussions of four Working Groups. Suggestions and recommendations made by those working groups are presented separately on pages 44 and 45. The next section contains statements made by representatives of most of the participating countries: Oman, India, Pakistan, Iran, Bahrain, UAE, Yemen, Eritrea and Sudan. The third section contains 11 Technical Papers dealing with fisheries resources, environmental issues and MCS in the Arabian Sea and adjacent Gulfs, technical aspects of MCS and observer programmes, as well as an overview of MCS in SE Asia and legal issues related to MCS.
